In this second video lecture designed to support individuals working towards the British Society of Echocardiography's level 1 accreditation I consider some of the basic principles behind the generation of ultrsound images. The lecture covers how ultrasound is generated, how returning signal allows us to build up visual representations of the patient's anatomy, some basic tips on how to 'optimise' the image that is generated and why artefacts occur.
